Delayed? No big deal…

Sipping a Pinot and watching the afternoon sun stream in through the windows sounds like the perfect recipe for a French bistro.   I bet you wouldn’t guess that this is what I was doing on Friday afternoon as I waited for my flight to depart RDU.

RDU's Terminal 2 Expansion

With the opening of the new extension of Terminal 2, one can wander over to the new wine bar, Carolina Vintages, get a hamburger and french fries across the way at Five Guys (recently voted #1 fast food hamburger in the U.S. for a reason) or pick up that blazer you forgot to pack at Brooks Brothers.  No longer are you are relegated to opening up a bag of overpriced Chex Mix and a drinking a Diet Coke as you wait to board your flight.

From the tall wooden beams to the open ceiling that allows for ample sunlight, the terminal is an architectural delight that you don’t typically expect to experience at an airport. With the completion of Terminal 2, a project that was a 10 year under taking, it seems fitting that the Triangle Business Journal has chosen to honor John Brantley, Raleigh-Durham International Airport’s Airport Director who was instrumental in the completion of the terminal,  as the 2011 Businessperson of the Year.
